my dreaming mind…

I had some strange dreams last night…this drawing is a bit of an embellishment. Here's what it would look like as a 'day dream':

recent works in clay…

I continue to take Corinne Peterson's "Dreams, Myths & Pillars" class at Lill Street, it's a form of therapy for me – and her class is always filled with the most interesting and genuine souls. The piece at the top is about as close to a pillar as I will probably get, there is a 3rd component that the top 2 pieces will stand on. Photo coming soon, once it's all glazed. The  other 2 pieces, tiles that I carved, the middle glazed with white and the bottom one still wet, with slip that I carved directly on. Love this carving process. Hope you are having a wonderful weekend, it was a sunny day in Chicago with lots of people out and about, and popping into the studio. I worked on commissions, most of the day.

Anne’s Pet Portrait Debut on 190 North….Watch the Live Podcast!

Check out our fun feature from ABC Channel 7's 190 North Television Show! It turned out great thanks to the wonderful interviews with my customers  and their pets
(Cris & Kaaren & Tango and Sarah & Bear), and all the great folks and camera crew at 190 North, thank you Janet & Holly!! Sadly, Bear, the sweet Bernese Mountain Dog in the segment passed away a few weeks ago…so honored to have created his portrait and that he's also immortalized on film. He was beloved by everyone in the neighborhood.

Please contact me if you are ready to order a Pet Portrait!

The other wonderful part of this feature, it aired the night before my 44th birthday…a lovely gift!

Happily Ever After...

VanSluysThis Custom Narrative Commission Print was a gift for newlyweds Katie & Tim. It features their Chicago neighborhood, Lincoln Square, their house, their beloved beagles: Nigel & Zoe, their love of travel and Mini Coopers (he races) and the site of their recent wedding ceremony: the Natural Bridges of Santa Cruz, in California. They received a Gift Certificate and were able to collaborate with me on the design for a most meaningful and vibrant work of art!

Author Stephanie Calmenson...her dog, Harry & my art, on Skype!

Screen shot 2011-02-22 at 12.49.16 PM
Meet Stephanie and Harry! She had the winning bid on the painting hanging behind her (Black Dog + Stripes) at the Barkin Arts Fundraiser in NYC in 2006. She contacted me shortly after and expressed an interest in having me illustrate one of her future books (which I would love to do!). Stay tuned on that…. Blackdogstripes
In the mean time, more about Stephanie: she has written several nonfiction dogs books and does on-line chats with schools (all age groups) as well as rescue organizations and other animal advocate groups. It warms my heart to know that my dog painting hangs in the background during these chats! Stephanie also presents at teacher and librarian conferences where she uses her books to talk about the writing process. For more information about her online chats see the “For Grown-ups” page of her web site:

Her adorable dog, Harry, (in the Skype photo) is also the star of her book, May I Pet Your Dog? How fun is that?!

A photo from our real estsate listing, our home just went on the market. It’s a lovely place, if you know anyone in Chicago looking, please send them this link and have them contact me. Starting a new chapter in my life, seems the only thing we can truly count on is change…I’m doing my best to embrace it with grace.
