Poets & Writers & Remembering 9/11...

I was honored to have my work published in the September/October 2011 issue of Poet & Writers Magazine to accompany an editorial piece on the Literature of 9/11 by Kevin Nance. I painted this piece on 9/11/02, it was a very emotional experience to paint, even a year later...I had done a lot of work in my sketch book around the time of 9/11/01 but it took a year for this painting to emerge from my consciousness. Still leaves me with a heavy heart.

Vintage ALF Paintings for Sale at the Bucktown Arts Fest this weekend!

I'm very grateful to share that we sold our house in this impossible market...and I'm downsizing my life in a big way, so that means I'm ready to part with some vintage art works that I've made over the last 15 years. I'll have many at this weekend's Bucktown Arts Fest. This little show is still going strong and now, bigger than ever. I'll be selling lots of new works from the summer as well as vintage pieces from the late 90's...pieces I painted when I lived in the neighborhood. C'mon by...let's liven up your walls!

 BUCKTOWN ARTS FEST

Anne's Booth Location: #14

Northwest Corner of the Show on Belden

Dates & Times: Saturday, August 27th & Sunday August 28th

11:00 a.m. - Dusk

Round Trip Flight, 30x30 Acrylic on Canvas in Wood Frame: $500

This is the only large piece I have left from my "flying people" series...I did many of these before Izzy and other dogs came into my life...they were inspired by dreams of flying!

Day & Night, 28x30 Acrylic on Wood, Framed: $400

Strike 3, 25x49 Acrylic on Canvas w/wood frame: $600

This piece chronicles the traumatic gang problems we lived through in Bucktown back in the 90's. I still have the quarter brick that came through our window at 3am...our sweet salvation: we had just put in an order for new windows the week before!

Time is flying and I'm exhausted after a week of moving...But I will update you on that another time...business first!  Tonight is the Kick-off Party for the Bucktown Arts Fest at the Jackson Junge Gallery in Wicker Park. I donated "Three Birds Flying" which I painted in my Bucktown studio several years ago...hope it finds a new home tonight and helps raise some funds for the Fest & neighborhood art programs!

My dog spotted on Mapquest satellite map...

At this year'sFields Project Art Fair I had a lovely lady and her daughter come to my display and excitedly share with me that my dog field sculpture (done in 2007) shows up on the MapQuest satellite map! This is pretty amazing because we mowed that field in one day and the photo was obviously taken early in the day since the negative space around the dog and the flowers was not mowed yet. You can't see us, by we are down there on the tractor...we stayed out there until it was done, in spite of the fact that Jennifer, the farmer was pregnant at the time...women farmers rock! ; ) See below for the finished project:

....it was an amazing week on the farm: part I

Screen shot 2011-06-30 at 7.24.54 PM
I spent a magical 9 days, June 18-26th, at the 13th Annual Fields Project Artist Residency. I'll split my recap into a few posts because I have a lot of photos that I would like to share. I stayed with the Pfieffer Family near Ashton, IL on their pig farm, and I'm glad to report that they have agreed to adopt me! ...do you like their license plate?! My toes are the green ones, painted in honor of the week, which was filled with laughter and an endless supply of rural artistic inspiration.

With Kelly Velasco and her new painting 'Black Hair...Blue Mood'...
