BIG DOGS, and a few kitties on walls...

Last week we did the BIG ART install at Pets First Chicago…it turned out GREAT! After meeting with Dr. C (Chitra Natarajan), I designed a 3 piece triptych for behind the check in counter and then window decal art for the lobby and foyer areas. Many of the pets in the artwork belong to staff that work at the clinic, as well as Dr. C’s pets – and, of course, we wanted to include the Chicago skyline and doggie beach. I look forward to doing more of these kinds of jobs, please share my info with any veterinarians or pet businesses that you think might benefit by adding some fun colorful artwork to their spaces. I can work with folks anywhere in the country.

2013 Fields Project Part 4: Process

Part 4 from the Fields Project:  PROCESS
Unlike my plein air compatriots, I work via sketches and photographs. Mostly driving around the first few days of the residency and then setting up my outdoor studio at Castle Rock State Park. This year, I only spent a short time up there due to weather and ticks. I spent two afternoons painting in one of the enormous storage sheds at the Bocker Farm…me and the morning doves, they didn’t really appreciate my prescence but they graciously spared my artwork their droppings!

No, this cow was not this tall, but I couldn’t resist making this comical rendition.

My work was more abstract than usual, this year. I was fascinated by the patterns of the driveways at the farms and the simple shapes of things.

Can you tell it's late afternoon on a Friday? These guys were very jovial! I just received an email all the pieces were installed today at Oak Brook Center and the big award ceremony, ribbon cutting and sculpture walk is next Thursday, May 19th…kind of exciting!

painting the birdbath…part 2: glorious color!

Screen shot 2011-05-03 at 7.51.47 PM
Here's the color portion of this story…spent a week deliberating if I should have 3 different color schemes/tiers and in the end stuck with it. In the past I would have done a coordinating border like the black and white bones I did in the 'Suite Chicago Dogs' set….but since this is one single piece and that was 4 separate pieces opted to try something different. It might look a little odd here, but wait until you see it with the black outlines painted in….stay tuned!
